July 1st Mid-Year Check
The first half of the 2026 tax year is behind us. Now is the time to review your year-to-date income and foreign taxes paid. If your income has increased significantly, you may need to adjust your Q3 and Q4 estimated tax payments to avoid the underpayment penalty when you file in 2027.
The 90% Rule
To avoid penalties, you must pay 90% of your current year's tax or 100% of last year's tax. LSI keywords include 'Tax Projections,' 'Withholding Adjustment,' and 'Form 1040-ES.' For expats, this is also a good time to check if you still meet the Physical Presence Test requirements for the year.
